This is the second illustration for the tale “The Ox and the Boy.”
After the old woman lied to the boy and stole his pipe, she intended to bring it to the king for a reward. However, when the ox heard about this, he asked an angel to find the pipe and give it back to the boy. (The illustration depicts this moment in the story.) In the end, the ox helps the boy become the king’s adopted son and they live happily ever after.
