This illustration depicts the financial pressure students faced at the time. Accompanying the picture is a small humorous verse, according to which, students would line in front of pawn shops, burdened with their belongings, in hope of getting a few pennies to make the ends meet - until their stipend was issued. However, as the poet states: “those with money, never hurry” and only the luckiest were getting the aid.
